How to Stop iMovie from automatically zooming photos

Fix the automatic zooming feature in iMovie with the techniques presented in this tutorial. This tutorial from TheHowToMac shows how to stop this feature, as well as fine-tuning the Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation settings.

You can also do this:

  • After you create a new project, go to File > Project Properties (Command+J) and change "Initial Photo Placement" to Fit or Crop in order to set the default behaviour in iMovie when you place in still images.

That way you save time from not having to adjust EVERY photo.

I just wanted to thank you for your tutorial! You have saved me hours of frustration!!!!! I was going crazy trying to figure out how to zoom out the pictures for my upcoming KickStarter campaign! THANK YOU!!!

very helpful. for latest version iMovie, above top right "movie pane", you see Fit/Crop to Fill/Ken Burns. Select Fit. (9/2015)
